Direct Method

It is like the natural method, the students learn by themselves making the class like a games or with music, it is like to teach to children, it’s does no matter if the student has 20 or 10 years old, this methods is good to teach, the teachers make it easier for them to do it, they just have to use the language that want to learn, putting out the natal language, in this case they will use just the English, the teachers look for the introduction of grammar with the direct method, focusing in develop oral skills to learn easier, many schools and teacher make use so this method to teach to their students, they make a natural way to learn, is known that student could be bored if just be sitting reading a book or learning a big verbs list, but with this method the students get the knowledge by natural way. This method was developed in 1900 in England, and now day is used in the school curriculums.

In general, teaching focuses on the development of oral skills. Characteristic features of the direct method are:

  • Teaching concepts and vocabulary through pantomiming, real-life objects and other visual materials
  • Teaching grammar by using an inductive approach (i.e. having learners find out rules through the presentation of adequate linguistic forms in the target language)
  • Centrality of spoken language (including a native-like pronunciation)
  • Focus on question-answer patterns.
